Now entering Labrador.
After you park your snowmobile in Labrador City you can shop in the "air-conditioned comfort" of the Labrador Mall.
This is an "after" photo. This generator/welder unit unhitched from a truck and bounced down the highway. Paul helped two truckers get it back on it's feet and re-attached to the truck.
Our first use of Betty's Syncro capabilities occurred reaching a spontaneous lakefront campsite in the middle of nowhere.
The camping is great here...no noisy neighbors although a few pesky mosquitos.
Dot studies the guidebook while enjoying a veggie stir-fry.
Paul decided to have his Thai noodle dish.
Rush hour on the trans Labrador highway.
Housing in Churchill Falls, site of another big hydro-electric dam. The above ground conduits contain plumbing/electrical etc.
Make sure you gas up...next anything is 240km away and cellphones don't work!
Entrance to the Churchill Dam. Most of the dam is underground. We missed the free tour but hear it's highly recommended.
Good thing we brought extra gas.
Beautiful weather greeted us in Happy Valley Goose Bay, right in the middle of Labrador.
The former German barracks at the Goose Bay airforce base.
Paul and his friend, "Rocky" at the campsite near Goose River Lodges campground.
While in town shopping we saw a 1992 VW Transporter doublecab...apparently left behind by a German serviceperson.
The happy new owner gave us a tour but said "it's not for sale"
Side view of the transporter truck. Vehicles in Happy Valley/Goose Bay rarely rust out since they don't use salt in the winter.
Wonderful people run the Goose River Lodges campground. Snow-mobiling in the winter, Wireless Internet all year.
At the campground we saw an interesting "pop-top" camper build on a GM Astrovan chassis.
Dot cooking up burritos. Mmmmm....burritios.
Sunny breakfast in Happy Valley. It's so sweet it hurts.
The former Hudson Bay store in North West River is now a neat little museum.
General store type layout.
History of "The Bay" in these parts.
A typical trappers "Tilt," a small cottage used during hunting activities, small to hold in the heat. Makes our camper look huge.
The Tilt has a comfy pine bed, everything is within arm's reach.
Betty on the waterfront in all her glory.
There are actually two Vanagons in this photo. Can you spot the other one?
Our 2nd ferry ride was the overnight trip from Goose Bay to Cartright. By 2009 a road will replace the ferry.
Paul drives Betty onto the ferry.
