Dave, Lowell, and Raul welcome us to San Felipe in Baja, Mexico.

The campground manager and Lowell enjoying a good laugh outside their campers.
DSCN0597
Second day of the new year, San Felipe beach. Life is good.
DSCN0599
The fabulous fishing vessel "Dora". Dora is spanish for Dottie. Paul's new Mexican name became 'Blito, short for Pablito.
DSCN0602
Coco's Corner, a "rest stop" oasis on an obscure stretch of dirt road. We had a nice visit with him and a cold beer. Coco has been waiting years for them to pave the road and bring him thousands more customers.
DSCN0604a
Dot suffers through a rough day in Bahia de Los Angeles on the east coast of Baja alongside the Sea of Cortes.
DSCN0605
Daggets campground in Bahia de Los Angeles. The newer VW van belongs to Kelly and Matt, fellow travelers we met from Marin County who gave us lots of tips for places to visit as we went south.
DSCN0608
Old mining train in Santa Rosalia. This lovely coastal town used to be a big copper producer.
DSCN0612
The main street in Santa Rosalia. It reminded us of other former mining towns such as Dawson City in the Yukon. We're being watched closely by the guy in the truck.
DSCN0614
Typical Internet cafe in Santa Rosalia. If they get more customers they can finish the 2nd floor.
DSCN0616
Paul checks the tire pressure at Bahia de Concepcion. Notice how the fringe on the Palapa matches the fringe on our pop-top.
DSCN0617
A rogue camper at Bahia de Concepcion.
DSCN0618
Campers along the magnificant beach just south of Todos Santos, a small town with an artsy vibe and tons of galleries, cafes, etc. Baja's version of Sante Fe, New Mexico.
DSCN0620a
"I caught a cactus this big."
DSCN0621
After a run through the boiling hot desert, a stroll along the windy beachfront felt fabulous.
DSCN0625
A rocky "off road" type road north of San Jose del Cabo.
DSCN0625a
The first of many abandoned VW buses we encountered throughout our journey. Perhaps their radiator ran out of water?
DSCN0626
Dot just couldn't get enough of this rocky desert coastline.
DSCN0626a
Correction, Dot just couldn't get enough of Paul and the rocky desert coastline.
DSCN0629
Dot watches Bert ride a cactus. Ouch!
DSCN0633
We drove some really rocky roads in this area of Baja (the southeast coast). The scenery was breathtaking and luckily our van could handle 4WD style roads with amazing grace.
DSCN0637
Dead car beneath the shade of a lush tree in the desert. Bull sizzles in the hot sand. What's up?
DSCN0639
VW bus decomposing in the desert. Dot ponders the significance of its grafitti: "Nasal Passage".
DSCN0644
Los Barrilles Hotel. Dot's day at the pool, wearing 30spf suncreen.
DSCN0646
Paul appears cool in his crisp white shirt and within seconds he will devour that scrumptious shrimp taco.
DSCN0651
Pretty view from Mex Highway 1.
DSCN0657
Bahia de Concepcion on the flipside. Campers line the sandspit between the two bays.
DSCN0661
Unfortunately, not all of Baja is beautiful. Here's a typical scene of garbage on the side of the road and burning trash. Mexico, get it together with your littering.
DSCN0665
Paul enjoys lunch and a book on the side of the road.
DSCN0670
Life and death imitating art.
