Guadalupe Canyon Hot Springs. Our last adventure in Baja Mexico, just southwest of Mexicali, near the California border. |
To get to Guadalupe Canyon you must first drive miles and miles across Laguna Salada (Salt Lake) which has been dry for some time. Just follow the signs. |
After you cross the old lakebed from North to South, you start to climb into the mountains. Don't try this in a regular car. |
We stayed at Arturo's Campo #1, just follow the signs. |
Only 4WD trucks and high clearance VW vans can make it up this road. While the road is bumpy, if you go slow it's managable. |
Wish he had fresh vegetables in the van, because now we'd have a fully tossed salad. |
Our destination. Campspace "Sol" up in the mountains looking down on the canyon and dry lakebed off in the distance. Private and peaceful. |
Just a few steps down from our palapa, was our very own private hotsprings pool, built out of rocks onto the side of the canyon. |
Is this lunch or dinner? Dot cooking it up beneath the shady palapa kitchen area. |
A built in fireplace kept us warm in the night when the temperature dropped considerably from the hot day. |
Majestic view of the canyon from our private pool. Clothing optional. The water from the rocks is extremely hot and rich in minerals. |
The view of our palapa from the pool below. |
The Canyon has a tropical feel as well. |
No this is not the moon, but a stretch of road we hiked to view nature. |
Here she is, the rock formation many believe is the Virgen de Guadalupe. |
Like a lizard, Dot blends into the desert. |
Close up of a cactus in bloom. |
 Fireside chat, caveman style. |
Our stay was relaxing but the road shook us back to reality upon departure. |
After Guadalupe Canyon we drove to Lake Havasu, Arizona for "Buses by the Bridge", a VW Van get-together. Dot dubbed it "the bus jam". |
We met lots of other VW bus travelers and shared tales. |
The weather for Buses by the Bridge was perfect and over 200 buses showed up. |
There was a big pankake breakfast, raffles for bus parts, and other fun activities. The money raised went to local childrens' charities. |
