Guatemala City as seen from a nearby hilltop. |
Paul and Dot in a hotel courtyard in Antigua. |
Dot has a new friend. |
New friends Irma, George, Barbara and Randy pose with us in Antigua. |
A groundskeeper feeds a whole banana to this parrot. |
"Don't even think about taking my banana away from me." |
 Antigua hotel pool. |
Randy, Dot, and Irma on the streets of Antigua with as volcano in the background. |
Hello from Antigua, the former capital of Guatemala. (It's now Guatemala City.) |
 Town square, Antigua. |
Beautiful colonial architecture in Antigua. |
 Stately old building. |
Randy and Barbara pose under the volcano. |
There's a live band playing beside the restaurant at hotel Don Rodrigo for the lunchtime crowd. |
The restaurant has their own tortilla maker to supply fresh tortillas to all guests. |
Randy, Barbara, Irma, Dot, George, and Paul enjoy a wonderful (and filling) lunch. |
The courtyard at the Don Rodrigo was magnificant. |
 Relaxing and beautiful. |
After a great lunch the gang went to another place for coffee. |
 The cathedral in Antigua. |
This RV park, just 34km south of Guatemal City on the road that goes to Escuintla is the nicest RV park/trailer park in all of Central America. |
Camping at the wonderful Auto Mariscos trailer park. Yeah, we know it means "Auto Seafood" but it's a great place aside from the silly name. |
At this time of year there were only 3 couples camping here. We all became friends and hung out in George and Irma's spacious motorhome. |
The Auto Mariscos trailer park is also a full-blown waterpark. |
All of the water park facilities were included with our very reasonable camping fee. |
Each campsite has it's own covered area, table and chairs etc. |
What's this? Cocktail setups for an evening dip in the jacuzzi. |
George, Irma, Dot, Barbara, and Randy are happy to relax after a long day. Molly (Barbara and Randy's dog) watches over us. |
Paul switched places with Dot for this photo. |
View of Lago de Atitlan, a volcanic lake between Guatemala City and the Mexican border. |
Street scene in Panajachel, a small resort town on the shore of Lago de Atitlan. Notice yet another volcano looms in the background. |
A local woman heads down the street with her "baby in a backpack". |
Some of the taxis in Panajachel reminded us of the "Tuk Tuks" that they use in Thailand. |
We saw a baptism taking place on the lakeshore. |
Old North American school buses are colorfully painted and used as the main public transportation vehicles in most of Guatemala. |
The buses are called "chicken busses" because no doubt someone on board is taking chickens to market or bringing some home. |
We stopped at a roadside pullout coming down from the mountains to let our brakes cool. Paul ate a can of sardines on some politically painted rocks. Make sure you have excellent brakes in Guatemala. |
