Puebla, about 70km east of Mexico City has retained its charming colonial atmosphere even though it's one of the largest cities in Mexico. |
Pedestrian mall in downtown Puebla. This city had a nice feel to it. |
Puebla is also home to the largest Volkswagen factory outside of Germany and the cities largest employer. VW sponsors all the street signs in the central part of the city. |
On the outskirts of Puebla is the giant VW factory where all the New Beetles are made and up until July 2003 the old style Beetles too. |
We wanted a factory tour but they only give tours during the month of December so we looked at the employee parking lot instead. |
Dot enjoys a sunset beverage overlooking the mountains of Tepoztlan, 80km southeast of Mexico City. The mountains are said to have magical healing powers. |
There's a path behind town up to the top of this mountain and an ancient Aztek pyramid built on top. |
Restaurant row on a Friday night in Tepotzlan. |
Remember that old "Let's see how many people we can fit into a VW beetle"? Well, now it's the back of a pickup without seatbelts nor tailgate. But this is no game. |
When we returned to Puerto Vallarta we camped in the mini-campground behind the Frankfurt Hotel and Restaurant right on restaurant row. |
Here's the secure parking lot/campground behind Hotel Frankfurt. |
